Every day we navigate a world that expects us all to behave in certain
proscribed ways. There are things we just don't do.
That's not to say that we couldn't, but our fear of society's reaction
should we break the rules of what is normal or decent or our fear of failure keeps us from
exploring that "other side." So for Season 9, the Mob brings together
a collection of plays that take a look at the boundaries that surround us,
where they are, how they are defined, and the price to be paid for crossing
those boundaries. Illicit love affairs, non-standard relationships,
gender-bending, lying, cheating, stealing, overeating, overworking.... And how
closely our lives teeter on the edge when we stretch those boundaries.
But these plays also are among the most challenging we have
ever done at Mobtown. And in that way we are stretching our own
personal boundaries to see what we can accomplish, how far we can go.
And in the process, redefining ourselves....
And we're also bringing back a full slate of concerts, guest
performances, and special events to the Mobtown Theater. How's that
for pushing boundaries?

Directed by Alex Willis

Theater Appreciation: Thursday,

David Mamet, author of Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo,
Oleanna, Speed-the-Plow, Sexual Perversity in Chicago
as well as such screenplays as The Untouchables, Wag the Dog,
and Hannibal, really stretches himself with this story of two
genteel lesbians living together on the fringes of upper-class Victorian
society. Anna is the mistress of a wealthy man who gives her a
fabulous emerald necklace. Claire, Anna's paramour, has fallen in love
with a young girl. Claire plans to use Anna's house to seduce the
girl. But when the girl comes to Anna's house, she recognizes Anna's
emerald necklace as her mother's, and the whole damn thing threatens to
spiral out of control. Another Baltimore premier.

Playwright’s Festival for our ninth production of a new work by a local
playwright. What will it be this year? We don't know; you'll find out
when we do, okay? (Jeez, people wanting to know about something that
maybe hasn't even been written yet!) Still reading? Then how
about this - sign on with the BPF as a play reader, and then you'll probably
know what we're going to do before we do.... Not that
we'd listen to you anyways, punk-ass....
