You're probably
familiar with David Mamet's work even if you didn't know it. He has
written and re-written some of the best known movies of the last twenty five
years and a slew of his plays have been made into movies.
Glengarry Glen Ross, American Buffalo, Oleanna,
Speed-the-Plow, Sexual Perversity in Chicago The Untouchables,
Wag the Dog, Hannibal. He's known for his gruff,
masculine, profanity-laden dialogue that rings remarkably true to the
ear.
But this time he really stretches himself with this story of two genteel
lesbians living together on the fringes of upper-class Victorian society.
Anna is the mistress of a wealthy man who gives her a fabulous emerald
necklace. Claire, Anna's paramour, has fallen in love with a young
girl. But when Claire invites the girl to Anna's house with plans to
seduce her, the girl recognizes Anna's emerald necklace as her mother's, and
the whole damn thing threatens to spiral out of control.
