The
Goat or, Who Is Sylvia? by Edward Albee
September 29-October 21, 2006
Directed by Alex Willis
Running Time: 1 hr, 52 mins
Alex Willis debuts as
Mobtown's Artistic Director with the Baltimore premier of Edward Albee's
most provocative, daring, and controversial play since Who's Afraid of
Virginia Woolf? The Goat not only won the Tony for Best New Play
of 2002, but also garnered the New York Drama Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and
Outer Critics Circle awards.
Martin is a
successful architect who lives with his loving wife Stevie and Billy, his
gay teenage son. Martin's just won a prestigious award and been
selected to design the billion dollar city of the future. But when his
friend Ross comes to interview him, Martin confesses that he has fallen
deeply in love ... with a goat named Sylvia. The confession tears his
family apart and destroys his life, and makes us confront the boundaries of
what we consider normalcy, and what happens when you press those boundaries
too far.
Read our critical acclaims!
"Mobtown conquers the Goat" -
Judy Rousuck, The Baltimore Sun .... "Mobtown
Players manages to tread this minefield with a confident comic touch."
-
John Barry, CityPaper ... "This
seriously underrated group is nothing if not consistent, bringing high
quality theatre to our city" -
