There are several ways to support Mobtown: make a donation, volunteer, buy some swag from Cafe Press, or buy a book from Amazon.

Look.  The whole Mobtown thing?  It's a name, see.   It's a name that's based on a particular period in this city's history, and we thought was kinda catchy.  We aren't actually, you know, affiliated with da Mob.   There are no real shakedowns, no drug profits to fall back on, we're not a front for money laundering.  What you see is what you get.

Usually, every year, we try to do a letter kinda like this.  Well, okay, not really like this.   It usually says something earnest about "the arts," and reminds you that "we cannot live by ticket sales alone," yada yada.  And then we say something along the lines of, so please consider a donation to us; we're a 501c3 organization.   If you give us $25 we'll give you … something; and call you a Mobster.  A little more and you can be a … ummm … Rabble Rouser and we'll invite you to a party.

If you gave us money in the past THANK YOU!  You have no idea how much it meant to us.   But this year we're going to be a little more direct, and a little less … syrupy.

We do this because we like it.  We like watching theater and we like creating theater.   We like making a space where people can come together and communicate, celebrate, laugh, cry, snort, whatever.  We've been lucky in that we have had more than our fair share of moments where everyone – audience, actors, crew, staff – has felt the magic that live performance creates.   And we've tried to keep ticket prices in the rough area of a movie ticket (all right, they're a little more expensive than that), because we want more people to be able to experience that communion.

And that means we've basically used every last dollar from ticket sales to rent this space.  Maybe buy some paint.   We have a stock of costumes and props and set pieces.  But this year we want to be bigger, and better.  We want new lights.  We want people to know we're here.  We want to attract talented and energetic people to show you something you haven't seen before.   We want to make more of those moments when every person in the audience feels a part of the community.

So here's the deal.  First, if you like what you see, tell people.  Give 'em good directions to the place, let 'em know about the website, tell 'em you saw something kinda interesting up in Hampden.

If you want to do a little more, there are envelopes in the lobby with a little form – name, address, email.  If you can, go out and pick up an envelope, fill out the form printed on it, drop a check or maybe a tenner in it, go over to the concessions stand, buy a beer or glass of wine, and drop the envelope in the donations box.   Or don't hesitate!  Log on to Acteva and make your donation.

The return?    Well, yeah – it's tax deductible.  And you'll know that you are helping to make this crazy, fucked-up world a little better for about an hour and fifty-two minutes.   And, okay, there'll be a party – a soiree, really – opening night of Boston Marriage on June 22, 2007.

So, please?  Before we have to put a dead goat in your bed or something?   Thanks.

Volunteer

We are always in search of new blood.  If you've worked in theater before and can do some design work, boy do we have opportunities for you.  Or maybe you're just looking for some camaraderie and relish the chance to find out what this theater thing is all about.  Either way, either sign up for our Mailing List - and make sure to indicate that you are interested in volunteering on your profile, or drop us a line at volunteers@mobtown.net and we'll hook you up doing something with us lickety split.

Buy some swag

Make a purchase through Cafe Press - any of our tee-shirts, mugs, collectibles, you name it....  You get a little something, and we get a few bucks back....

Buy a Book

Use this form to search Amazon.com and we get a kickback on what you buy.  Or take a look at the Mobtown Book Club and see what we've been reading lately....  Buy a book, read a book, be part of the intelligentsia, and help us out a little.
